Why use Fuel Additives?

Although G D Jones & Son Ltd only buy fuels from the major oil companies who only refine the best quality crude oils; it should be noted that these fuels are manufactured to the set British & European Standards; any additional qualities/additives/enhancers that the manufacturers add to this fuel would come at a cost, thus will disadvantage the manufacturer when selling its Standard product on the open market. This means that this quality fuel will work for broad range of equipment designed and manufactured to work using it; however this does not necessarily mean that it’s the best the fuel can be for your appliance or engine. Our range of additives have been proven to further enhance the fuel to Premium Quality so that it will help your appliance  or engine work continuously at its optimum efficiency.

Some Fuel Distributors may market various grades of fuels under various names, which might make you the customer assume that they buy these fuels in bulk from the supply chain, this is untrue, it will merely be an additive such as these below added to the fuel when delivered to your storage tank either by the vehicle equipment or delivery driver.

If you require any of these additives, simply add the product to your fuel order either online or by telephone; the delivery driver will then pour the additive into your fuel storage tank prior to delivering the main product. This will ensure that the product is thoroughly mixed; he will also take the empty additive container away for disposal. Should you require an additive for a specific issue that is not listed here, please contact our company, we will contact our manufacturers to see if they can help.

G D Jones & Son - Cooker Additive

GD Jones cooker additiveMany Kerosene 28sec powered cookers have in recent years been experiencing problems; possibly as a result of lower sulphur values and in some cases the higher than usual char values found in today’s Kerosene 28sec. Our cooker additive is specifically manufactured to be used in Range/Stanley or Aga type cookers who have a vaporising (wick) style burner.

It has been designed specifically to reduce the char value, and improve the combustion performance of Kerosene 28sec. This will produce a cleaner, premium burning fuel, evident when servicing your appliance as there should be less carbon deposits. Please note that using this product does not extend the intervals between services for your appliance. It also contains chemical properties that will help reduce the formation of deposits due to ageing fuel in your storage tank, helping maintain the quality of the fuel for a longer ‘shelf life’, and to slow the oxidation of the fuel in the feed pipe, which reaches a very high temperature before the burner, so reducing the “carboning up”.

To get the best performance from your appliance, we recommend that you get your appliance serviced periodically by a Range/Aga or Stanley specialist who will set up your appliance as per manufacturer’s guidelines. Additionally they should check for water contamination inside the storage tank, and remove if necessary. Subsequently, they should clean or replace the sediment filter, which is usually found near the outlet of the tank.  Over time, tank deposits & condensation will build up, therefor, to ensure the quality of the fuel, servicing your storage tank is as important as servicing your appliance.

G D Jones & Son - Premium Heating Oil

G D Jones heating oil additiveThis additive has been specifically developed to work with and enhance Kerosene 28sec. It has multiple properties that also help lower carbon emissions.  Adding this product will result in producing a cleaner, premium burning fuel, evident when servicing your appliance as there should be less carbon deposits around the nozzle and on the heat exchanger surface helping your appliance run at its optimum efficiency.

G D Jones & Son - Gas Oil Extra

G D Jones gas oil additiveMost diesel engines today are calibrated when built to run on EN590 Derv whatever machines they are then fitted to, this is the normal fuel product available at our pumps for road fuel purposes. However gas oil (red diesel) specification is not identical to the DERV specification.  Gas Oil extra has been developed to compensate for the EN590 Derv properties that are lower in gas oil. This will result in a machine that will start easier, have increased pulling power, while also delivering a smoother ride. In addition this additive has properties which help reduce the negative effect of water pick up if the refineries add ‘FAME’ (Biodiesel) to the product. It will also reduce the effects resulting from reduced Sulphur content in the product today due to lower carbon emissions regulations.

This product is formulated and recognised as a fuel additive and should not void any manufacturer’s warranty, some manufacturers actually promote the use of this product.

To get the best performance from your machine, we recommend that you get your engine serviced periodically by a specialist. Additionally we recommend that you check for water contamination inside your fuel storage tank, and remove if necessary. Over time, tank deposits & condensation will build up, therefore, to ensure the quality of the fuel, servicing your storage tank is as important as servicing your engine. We also recommend that water and particle filters are also fitted to the outlet of your fuel storage tank.

G D Jones & Son – Anti Wax

GD Jones Anti-wax additiveMany users of Derv and Gas Oil who purchase their fuel during the spring, summer or autumn months get caught out with ‘Fuel Waxing’ when a sudden cold snap occurs during the winter months. This is because the Major Oil refineries do not add the ‘Anti wax additive’ to the fuel refinery process during these months. Summer grade Gas Oil will work to temperatures down to – 4 c, Winter grade Gas Oil to – 12 c; winter grade is currently guaranteed from 16th November to 15th March . The result is that the fuel waxes and solidifies in places such as the fuel lines and fuel filters making starting the vehicle impossible.

This product has been developed as a preventative measure to improve the cold flow performance of Derv and Gas Oil. It will also further improve the cold flow performance of Derv and Gas during colder periods even when the Major Oil Refineries add their own anti waxing additive. This product is compatible with oil products that include the product ‘Fame’ (maximum allowable) which is found in some blends today oil.

This will not work if the fuel is already waxed. It is also recommended that Fuel-specific tests are carried out if a minimum operability temperature is required. Point

G D Jones & Son – Anti Bug Kill

GD Jones Anti-bug kill additiveFuel tanks will over a period of time be subject to build up of condensation as the result of its surrounding atmospheric conditions; this will eventually result in a layer of water underneath the fuel at the bottom of your storage tank. When the ideal temperature is reached, this creates the conditions needed for the growth of algae (microbiological growth) which will continuously multiply and contaminate the fuel above, this is also sometimes known as the ‘Diesel Bug’. The resulting contaminated fuel will contain a slimy black or brown substance which will block filters and potentially harm the heating appliance or vehicles fuel system components.

This has been developed as a one dose product that will kill the current microbiological growth in the bulk storage tank or vehicle fuel tank. It kills a wide variety of bacteria and fungi and typically kills all substance within 36 hours. It may also be used in as a continuous treatment in a smaller dose (typically 25% of ‘kill’ dose) to protect your tank against further microbiological growth formation.

It is approved by the, Mercedes Benz, DAF, MAN, NATO, Deutz, Shell, the Swiss Army and others, in addition it will not affect it surrounding materials such as steels, aluminium, zinc and, polyethylene and polypropylene.

It will not remove already created sludge or water. This should also be done to reduce the likely hood of future microbiological growth.

Additionally we recommend that you periodically check for water contamination inside your fuel storage tank, and remove if necessary. Over time, tank deposits & condensation will build up, therefore, to ensure the quality of the fuel, servicing your storage tank is as important as servicing your engine or heating appliance. We also recommend that water and particle filters are also fitted to the outlet of your fuel storage tank.

500ml treats 2500ltr of Gas Oil, Derv or Kerosene.
